Do you know what it takes to create landscapes that not only look beautiful but also thrive in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) climate?
For us at Planters, it’s our dedicated nursery – where our plants are carefully cultivated, nurtured, and prepared – that makes a world of difference.
This blog offers a sneak peek at our plant perfection process, from seed to success.
A plant and flower nursery is a space built to create a controlled environment for nurturing young plants. However, not all nurseries are built the same.
The Planters Nursery is a 20,000-square-metre space divided into greenhouses for propagation and shaded areas for plants being prepared for use. We also have warehouses where materials and preserved tree trunks are kept.
Our nursery has about 100 different species of seasonal flowers, shrubs, trees, and ground covers. We cultivate two to three sizes for each plant species to give our design team artistic freedom to create aesthetically balanced and sustainable green spaces for our clients.
If you’ve tried visiting a similar space before, you know there are more than just desert plants in a UAE nursery. Here are some examples of the plants you’ll find at the Planters garden nursery:
Common Name: Paperflower
Best for: Hedging, trellis and container gardening
Common Name: Desert Rose
Best for: Potting and flower arrangements under full sunlight
Common Name: Crown-of-Thorns
Best for: Xeriscaping and low-water conditions
Common Name: Weeping Fig

The Planters Nursery is our primary source of plants and other supplies for our exterior landscape installation and maintenance projects. That means our clients have exclusive access to our carefully grown plants.
Our nursery is also instrumental in enhancing our outdoor landscaping services. It is where we perform tests to check how different varieties of ground cover perform in various green wall environments.
It is also where we check how our plants grow under various conditions, including how fertiliser ratios and application modes affect their growth. This way, we can make informed recommendations and ensure we only suggest plants with the highest success rate to our clients.
To keep to our promise of sustainable and healthy greenspaces, the Planters Nursery is staffed with 10 workers who work daily to maintain and nurture the plants we use for our landscape design and maintenance projects.

We use two propagation methods in our plant nursery in Dubai: cuttings and seed germination.
For cuttings, the quality of propagated plants heavily depends on the health of the stock or mother plant. Knowing this, we only use healthy, pest-free stocks and pay close attention to them daily.
Our nursery staff upholds potting and propagation hygiene protocols, keeping our tools and equipment clean and disinfected before use. They also ensure that any spilt plant waste and propagation material is discarded periodically.
Many of our plants also germinate from seeds and grow in controlled conditions in our greenhouses.
Our staff regularly monitors these baby plants and maintains a healthy growing environment. They also have strategic schedules for their rounds, first visiting greenhouses where clean and young plants are before moving on to the older stock to prevent infestation.
In our years of experience in landscaping and horticulture, we have developed a meticulous strategy for keeping our shrubs, trees, and ground covers in the best condition possible.
We follow an annual planned preventative maintenance (PPM) calendar that contains key details of the following:
Our team also trims and cuts plants to their ideal length and transplants seedlings based on their growth and size requirements.
The journey from seed to thriving landscape reflects our dedication to providing sustainable commercial greenspaces for our clients. At Planters, we grow diverse plant species and perform meticulous maintenance to ensure our clients’ landscapes remain in the best possible condition.
